Date Night is Any Night

January 29, 2012

As I gaze down at the skyscrapers dotting the Toronto skyline, with the Sorel-booted shoppers carrying Zara bags, and the bright lights from the Mexican and Middle Eastern restaurants glowing red; the fact I am enjoying a spur-of-the-moment Tuesday night date night with my fiancee is not lost on me. Even after a long day at work, the split decision to go out for some wine and some grub sounded good–and we managed to have a romantic, sweet time sampling food and wine and later strolling by the lake near Mimico Linear Park by our lonesome.

For child-free couples (and singles…I’m sure they may want to meet people too!) date night is a chance to catch up with each other and view their significant other like the days when they began romancing each other from the start of the relationship. Getting dolled up, putting on the good perfume and wearing those nice earrings is thrilling–or throwing on a jersey and heading to a hockey game that hubby bought tickets to last minute. Without scrambling to find a babysitter, or worry about the teenager sexting her boyfriend while the kid burns himself in the kitchen. It’s something we take advantage of, but spontaneous date nights are something we get to experience as frequent as we would like because we have the time (and extra funds).
